New Lothrop Softball traveled to Marlette on Saturday and came home victorious winning the tournament.
Strong hitting by Victoria Henige and Ashlyn Orr propelled the Hornets to a 14-4 victory against Croswell-Lexington in the first game. Both of these ladies collected 3 hits in the game with Henige contributing 4 RBIs and Orr 2. New Lothrop scored in every inning of the 6 inning mercy win.
The first inning they got the scoring started when Savanah Knieper singled, followed by a Henige double and Orr single. Makenna Gemalsky took one for the team in the second inning when she was hit by a pitch and advanced to 3rd on a couple wild pitch. She would be knocked in when Alexandria Knieper grounded out. The Hornets would score 2 more in the 3rd with only one hit in the inning. Orr lead off with a single, Mallory Heroux reached on an error and they would both advance around the bases do to passed balls. Orr and Henige would each drive in a run in the 4th putting the Hornets up 7-3. NL would break it open in the 5th scoring 4 runs. A. Knieper lead the inning off with a triple and would come in when Mikalya Griffin reached on error. Alli Hunt would drive plate Griffin when she reach on an error. Henige singled later in the inning scoring 2 more runs. The Hornets would end the game in walk off fashion in the 6th. Addison Phillips, Griffin, Ava Thorsby, and Elizabeth Hebert had 4 consecutive hits to score the 3 runs needed to end the game 14-4.
Mallory Heroux got the start and the win. She gave up 3 hits 4 runs only 1 earned, one walk and struck out 13.
Anna Lucius, Phillips, and Griffin each scored 2 runs in the game. Henige had 4 RBIS, Orr and Hebert 2
New Lothrop advanced to the finals and played Bad Axe and came away with a 11-0 5 inning mercy to win the tournament.
The Hornets again would score in every inning on their way to victory. They would start the game batting around scoring 6 runs in the top of the first inning. Savanah Knieper lead off the game when she was hit by a pitch, Henige would doubled, Orr singled and Heroux would walk to score the first run. A. Knieper would drive in 2 more run with a single. S. Knieper finished the scoring in inning by driving in 2 more runs with a single.
NL would score 1 in the 2nd thanks to a walk by Orr and hit by A. Knieper, 1 in the 3rd with hits by Phillips and Henige, 1 in the 4th with a hit by Heroux and wild pitches by Bad Axe. The Hornets would finish the game off in the 5th when 3 freshmen collected 3 straight hits. Phillips and Gabbi Kitchen would single and Griffin hit a double to end the scoring.
Savanah Knieper started the game and got the win. She went 5 innings giving up 4 hits 1 walk and 4 strikeouts.
NL collected 13 hits in the game. Henige, Orr, A. Knieper, and Phillips each had 2 hits. Aubrie Servello-Hassled collect 3 RBIs along with 2 RBIs apiece by the Knieper sisters Alexandria and Savanah.
